BY DEFINITION
Emergency vehicles are vehicles used by emergency services to transport equipment and resources, reach calls for service quickly, and perform other tasks efficiently. They are equipped with specialized lighting and other equipment
Here are some examples of emergency vehicles:
Ambulances
Transport medical equipment and personnel to help those who are injured and need medical attention. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) units are ambulances that provide out-of-hospital emergency care.
Tow trucks
Should be given space when flashing amber lights are visible at the roadside.
Ministry of Transportation (MTO) vehicles
Used for emergency responses or highway maintenance, and often display blue or amber lights.
In Ontario, if you see an emergency vehicle with flashing lights, you should:
Slow down to less than the posted speed limit
Move to another lane, if it's possible and safe to do so
Use your turn signal to let other drivers know you're changing lanes
Pull over to the far right of the road and stop your vehicle as soon as it's safe to do so
